Close to nature on the Ranch

Just down the road from the Ranch is Ano
  Nuevo
where 2000 lb. elephant seals come
to mate each year from January to March

The males battle and trumpet to protect their harem of sometimes 30 females

Humming birds love our red bottle brush.
Here an emerald throated bird looks
        for nectar

Here an orange tail hoovers, moving it's
wings at 80 flaps a second

Cross fox are among our favorite critters. They are a cross between a silver and red fox. We don't see them often as they are mostly nocturnal.
Cicada's can sing all night long.

When you open a drawer at the Ranch you don't know what you'll find. Here a house wren decides to feed its four babies in our potting bench
Bobcats have short tails and are also hard
to see as the move about with great stealth

Coyote Hill is one of of our favorite places
        to explore our spectacular vistas

It's not often that we see coyotes roaming
but we sure hear them almost every night
